Most sports fans already own the usual things. A scarf. A shirt. A mug. A programme tucked away in a drawer. Maybe a poster from years ago, kept more for the memory than the quality. That is why an Andrew Robinson art print feels different. It takes something deeply personal, the love of a club, a player, a match, a venue or a sporting moment, and presents it as proper fine art. For many football supporters, the 92 is a journey measured in train tickets, turnstiles, floodlights and away ends. It means watching a live association football match at the home stadium of every club in the top four professional tiers of English football My route was different. I completed the 92 with paintbrushes, sketching, composition and colour. Instead of ticking off each ground by attending a match there, I painted a “going to the match” stadium scene for every one

Some football grounds feel alive before anyone has even kicked a ball. You hear the turnstiles click, smell the onions from a burger van, squeeze through a narrow concourse, then climb steps that generations of fans have climbed before. The view might be awkward. The seat might have less legroom than a bus shelter. The toilets might be best described as character building. Still, plenty of fans would not swap it. Cambridge City F.C. has always held a special place in my heart. As a local football club, it represents more than just the game; it’s part of the community’s fabric. Yet, for years, I hesitated to paint the club because they lacked a permanent home. After leaving their historic City Ground on Milton Road, the team played at St Ives Town and Histon F.C. Now, they have finally settled into a new stadium in Sawston. This move inspired me to create the painting.

Painting a football stadium is more than just capturing a building. It is about preserving the energy, history, and passion that fills the stands on match days. Over the past few days, I have dedicated my time to painting the Truro City Stadium, home to Truro City F.C., a club competing in the National League. This project has been a long time coming, as I have been slowly working to complete a series of paintings featuring National League clubs.
