why is there a black cat in every painting? The answer begins long before my own work. It belongs to a much older story about artists, craft, identity, and the quiet marks makers leave behind. For thousands of years, craftspeople and artisans have added maker’s marks to their finished work. These marks might be simple, complex, decorative, practical, obvious, or almost invisible. They help identify who made a piece, where it came from, and sometimes how it was made.

The hardest part of returning to painting is not always the painting itself. Sometimes it is getting back into the quiet routine around it: clearing the table, choosing the subject, mixing the first wash, and trusting that your hand still remembers what to do. After a break, that first session can feel oddly loaded. You want the work to feel fresh, but you also want to prove to yourself that the rhythm has not gone completely missing. That was very much the mood behind my lat

It has been a heavy week for Manchester City fans. After the independent commission’s verdict on the Premier League charges, the mood around the club has been anything but calm. There has been frustration, debate, anger, gallows humour and, as ever with football, plenty of noise from everyone else. This is not a legal breakdown of the case. It is a painting post, written from the much more human side of football: the memories, the places, the rituals and the stubborn loyalty

Most sports fans already own the usual things. A scarf. A shirt. A mug. A programme tucked away in a drawer. Maybe a poster from years ago, kept more for the memory than the quality. That is why an Andrew Robinson art print feels different. It takes something deeply personal, the love of a club, a player, a match, a venue or a sporting moment, and presents it as proper fine art. These are not throwaway decorations or mass-produced wall fillers.

For many football supporters, the 92 is a journey measured in train tickets, turnstiles, floodlights and away ends. It means watching a live association football match at the home stadium of every club in the top four professional tiers of English football My route was different. I completed the 92 with paintbrushes, sketching, composition and colour. Instead of ticking off each ground by attending a match there, I painted a “going to the match” stadium scene for every one

Some football grounds feel alive before anyone has even kicked a ball. You hear the turnstiles click, smell the onions from a burger van, squeeze through a narrow concourse, then climb steps that generations of fans have climbed before. The view might be awkward. The seat might have less legroom than a bus shelter. The toilets might be best described as character building. Still, plenty of fans would not swap it. That is the heart of the traditional V's modern stadiums debate

Choosing art for a wall should feel exciting, not restrictive. The print may be perfect, but if the size does not suit the space, or the framing choice does not fit the room, the decision becomes harder than it needs to be. That is why the expanded collection at andrewrobinsonart is such a useful step forward. The range now gives collectors, supporters, and gift buyers more choice across print sizes, formats, mounts, and framed options, with prices starting from just £11.

Tamworth FC has been a cornerstone of its community for nearly a century. Their home, The Lamb Ground, has witnessed 92 years of football history since opening in 1933. Recently, the club entered a new chapter with an American investment group taking ownership and appointing a new chairman. This change marks the end of a 40-year era under the previous owner and ushers in fresh hopes and maybe concerns for supporters. My latest painting of The Lamb Ground captures this moment

Cambridge City F.C. has always held a special place in my heart. As a local football club, it represents more than just the game; it’s part of the community’s fabric. Yet, for years, I hesitated to paint the club because they lacked a permanent home. After leaving their historic City Ground on Milton Road, the team played at St Ives Town and Histon F.C. Now, they have finally settled into a new stadium in Sawston. This move inspired me to create the painting.

Painting a football stadium is more than just capturing a building. It is about preserving the energy, history, and passion that fills the stands on match days. Over the past few days, I have dedicated my time to painting the Truro City Stadium, home to Truro City F.C., a club competing in the National League. This project has been a long time coming, as I have been slowly working to complete a series of paintings featuring National League clubs.

To honor this centenary, I have completed a new painting of the New York Stadium, the club’s proud home. This artwork is a fresh take on a subject I first painted in 2017, reflecting nearly a decade of growth in my technique and artistic vision.

The Queen Elizabeth II Stadium, home to Enfield Town F.C., stands out as a unique piece of architectural history. This is my gouache & watercolour painting of it.
