Scarborough FC’s Theatre of Chips: Painting the Athletic Ground, Prints, and the Road to Sports Village
Some grounds are remembered for silverware. Some for famous nights under floodlights. Scarborough FC’s former Athletic Ground has another kind of pull: it feels like a place where football history, seaside grit, and local humour all meet in one slightly weathered corner of North Yorkshire.
That is what drew me to paint it. My latest painting focuses on the old Athletic Ground, the home of Scarborough FC until the club’s sad end in 2007.
