why is there a black cat in every painting?
The answer begins long before my own work. It belongs to a much older story about artists, craft, identity, and the quiet marks makers leave behind.
For thousands of years, craftspeople and artisans have added maker’s marks to their finished work. These marks might be simple, complex, decorative, practical, obvious, or almost invisible. They help identify who made a piece, where it came from, and sometimes how it was made.
